Temple of the Sun
We can't be studying all the time. So here's a solution which allows you to play, learn and maybe even win $5000! :)
Temple of the Sun is a flash based Indiana Jones style game. Work your way through 5 levels jumping over holes, whipping Guardians, climbing vines and capturing gold. At the end of each of the 4 levels, you have to answer a C++ question to continue. At the end of the fifth level, you will be given a few lines of code, which you have to compile. And this is where this is relevant to our OSUG: You have to compile it in Sun Studio. Running the code gives you an output, which you have to put back into the game, which will then allow you to enter the sixth and final level. You can play the game as many times as you want.
The goal of Temple of the Sun is to get the highest score. To help you all, I've played it extensively, because I want someone from our OSUG to win! Therefore, I give you the secrets: "Combos" and "don't forget to grab those vines" :)
When you meet Guardians, plan your attacks wisely! We all know that geeks (yours truly incl.) are thorough, so if you want to win the big money, you have be even more thorough! So, plan for those combos (multiple consecutive scores).
Secondly, you don't want to do like I did which is moving too fast. This will cause you to miss the vines when you run, which means you fall down. And every time you fall down, you lose points (every time you are "in contact with a hazard", you lose points).
2 IMPORTANT THINGS
One of the most important goal for our OSUG at the moment is to profile ourselves, to put SDU on the map. Thus it is very important that you put down your company name as "SDU" and (just to be sure) you put down "FY" as your state ("FY" is short for "Fyn" :D). We have to show Sun that we are active! The other important thing is of course the prizes! So here they are:
- 1st place: $5,000USD
- 2nd Place: $2,500USD
- 3rd Place: $1,000USD
- The next 100 highest scores will receive 1GB Flash Drive
I don't know about you, but $5000 would look pretty good on my bank account :)
