CaCert Assurances:
The NLOSUG will offer the possibility to get yourself CaCert assured at
the meeting on February 26, 2009. CaCert is a not-for-profit (and Free)
Certificate Authority, based on the web of trust. After signing up and
being assured by a couple of (other CaCert) assurers you enter a
state where you can obtain free x.509 certificates for E-mail, (web)
servers or Code signing. You will be able to assure other people as
well. More info can be found at http://www.cacert.org.

The CaCert system has recently be relocated to Ede (NL). This has
been made possible by a generous donation from ao. Sun Microsystems
The Netherlands. The infrastructure runs on Open Source (currently
Linux), and all the applications are also released as Open Source.
To get assured:
- Sign up at www.cacert.org with your full name (as in your passport)
and a working E-mail address. Ack the E-mail address ping. - Print 3 Assurance forms with your name on it (under CAP/TTP Forms)
- Bring the form to the meeting and sign it in the precence of an assurer
while showing Photo IDs (passport / drivers license) (if you show 2
pieces of government issued photo ID, you'll get more Trust (points)) - The Assurer will assign points to your account.
- Once you get enough trust points you can assure people yourself and start issuing your certs from the CaCert site.
