LOSUG is the London based user group for people interested in OpenSolaris and related topics. Our members come from varied backgrounds including development, system administration, education and many more. Basically if you’ve an interest in OpenSolaris or open source we'd love to see you at one of our meetings.
LOSUG is a Special Interest Group (SIG) within the UK Oracle User Group. This affiliation gives us all the administrative assistance we need to keep LOSUG running plus links to other user groups that will hopefully bring new members and speakers. See our UKOUG SIG page for more information and details of how to join the UKOUG if you are an existing LOSUG member.

| Speakers: | Clive King : Solaris Optimisation & Best Practices Every support engineer has their war stories where the underlying root cause was unexpected or the journey to find the root cause was bizarre. Unfortunately, such stories are typically situations which are critical for the business they effect, often with associated CNN moments. Part 1: 'What not to do' uses anonymous examples of real issues, describing not just the cause itself, but also how it was found, the Solaris tools used and what to look for in the output to get to root cause. Part 2: 'What to do' examines good practice on Solaris 10 and 11 systems for performance and application optimization and using observed system behaviour to guide appropriate tuning. Clive King Dr. Clive King is a Senior Staff Engineer in Oracle's Solaris Revenue Product Engineering organisation. His main role is the diagnosis of performance and availability issues where the subsystem at fault is not obvious, often for issues raised to executive management. Prior to working in Engineering, he spent 13 years in Sun Support Service. Prior to this, he worked on Cray Supercomputers and as a University researcher using novel Artificial Intelligence techniques to detect fraudulent loan applications. His free time is spent fell running and fixing bugs in the mdb kernel debugger. |

We are always looking for interesting speakers and presentations. We aim to have two shorter presentations per meeting, each lasting from between 15 to 45 minutes. Topics that we think might be interesting in the future are (and in no particular order):
As the final line suggests, this list is not definite! If someone would like to give a presentation on one of the above topics, or a topic of their own suggestion, please get in touch!
