If you use a WPA2 encrypted network then will this post be your friend: http://blogs.sun.com/lubos/entry/joining_a_hidden_wpa2_secured
OpenSolaris come with a device tool which neatly shows all devices and whether they are supported.
Open solaris even run on low end hardware like the eeepc 701. See this post: http://blogs.sun.com/dtu/entry/open_solaris_on_the_eeepc or http://kohju.justplayer.com/docs/mirror/OpenSolaris/eeepc-special/ for a eeepc specilised OS dist
This is likly to be updated as I get around to test the different parts. I use OpenSolaris as my OS on my laptop.
*Wifi: Works
*Screen: Works
*Volume control: Works
*Webcam: Works (sort off, cheese however, do not it seems)
*ACPI: Gnome can blank the screen on lid close, but http://hub.opensolaris.org/bin/view/Community+Group+pm/FAQ_sr_support gives a guide to enable suspend to ram. This indeed make the suspend to ram work.
*Ethernet: See http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=234817 for driver. Myk driver do find my card, but it will not use dhcp. I can snoop packages, s.t. it must be the network config, or my home network which might be foobar.
*Bluetooth: Haven't found any bluetooth commands to test with :-(
*Mobile internet. I will try http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?forumID=79&threadID=37501 with my huqwai e160g and report back.
*Haskell, git and gcc (and some more) did I need to get from here: http://code.google.com/p/opensolaris-lang/
