Welcome to the Delaware OpenSolaris User Group page.  We are centered at the University of Delaware in Newark, DE and will welcome anyone in Delaware and nearby that is interested in OpenSolaris, Solaris or open source software in general. We plan to hold some meetings and events which will be posted here.

The mailing list is at  http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/ug-deosug.  If you want to receive announcements of meetings and planned events please sign up to the mailing list. If you have a question or would like some topic presented at a meeting (or have a topic to present) feel free to send to the list. 

We are looking to add more people interested in (Open)Solaris and open source software on the UD campus and in industry in Delaware. If you know someone or a group that may be interested in attending or giving a talk please point them to this page.

Past Meetings and Events

Our first meeting was on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 2pm in Evans 204 on the UD campus. A set of slides on topics that Ben mentioned and we discussed at the meeting are available here.  The starter kits arrived in the morning and some people took a book and live CD. We also had some donut holes courtesy of the gift card included. If you want one of the laptop stickers (or live CD or intro book) see Ben or come to the next meeting.

Our second meeting was on Thursday, March 19 at 2pm also in Evans Hall 204. Ben talked about ZFS and how it is used in ECE/CIS. Slides from the ZFS presentation are available here.  Rodney talked about how OpenSolaris is used by LUG on their x4500 and how the IPS package system is used.

In our third get together on April 9 at 2pm in 220 Smith Hall Harry Foxwell, PhD from Sun and GMU talked to us about OpenSolaris.

We had a small meeting on May 7 at 2pm in 204 Evans Hall.

On June 11th we had a very interesting meeting where some University of Delaware projects were used to showcase OpenSolaris features such as ZFS' API.

On July 8 we met for lunch at 12pm at the Deer Park on Main St., Newark and distributed T-shirts to those that came.

We met on August 20 at 2pm in 204 Evans Hall. We discussed the idea of doing something for software freedom day and some other topics.

On September 9 at 3pm in 204 Evans Hall we talked about plans for the upcoming Software Freedom Day event. Ben also went over zones and how they are used in ECE/CIS. Take a look at the zone slides here.

On September 17 from 4-6pm in Evans 204 we held an event for Software Freedom Day. There was food, prizes, VirtualBox install help and discussions about free and open source software.

On October 7 we met in 123 Sharp Lab where we had a special guest presenter, Christopher Bergström from the OSUNIX project.

On November 11 we met in 204 Evans Hall and had some lightening talks on Sun's Java Web server (in use by LUG), iSCSI and SMF.
