Sun Shared Visualization Software
Current release is 1.1u1. 1.1 release focused on simplifying installation, configuration, and use.
1.1u1 merely improved documentation and added the Mac OS X (Intel) client.
Component versions and new features follow:
VirtualGL 2.1
New Feature |
|---|
Benefit |
vglserver_config script |
greatly simplifies server configuration |
vglonnect script |
simplifies client use |
Symbolic links |
simplifies documentation by normalizing paths between Solaris and Linux |
Windows installation includes an optimized PuTTY 0.60 SSH® terminal emulator |
Provides better performance than stock PuTTY (and saves a separate installation step) |
Enhanced VirtualGL configuration dialog |
More dynamic control. Now applies to Sun Ray thin clients. |
glxspheres test program / benchmark included |
Trivial to verify your setup and try any mode |
Lossless RGB and Greyscale JPEG encodings added |
Can alternate between high compression for interactive use and lossless viewing for detailed study. |
Anaglyphic (red/cyan) stereo added |
Quick and easy stereo display on clients that do not support quad-buffered stereographic display. |
TurboVNC 0.4 (based on TightVNC 1.3.9)
New Feature |
|---|
Benefit |
Enhanced performance (when used with the TurboVNC viewer), esp. on Solaris |
Noticable performance improvement |
Lossless refresh |
Use high compression for interactive use and get a lossless copy for detailed study when animation Scalable ceases. |
Lossless RGB and Greyscale JPEG encodings added |
Reduces CPU usage when used over gigabit (or faster) networks. |
Three quality options |
Simplifies tradeoff between performance and image fidelity |
Default window geometry increased |
Default window size is now 1240x900 (useful on 1280x1024 displays). |
WebVNC viewer now defaults to a separate window |
No longer any interaction with use of the TAB key. |
Sun Grid Engine Extensions
New Feature |
|---|
Benefit |
config_gfx script |
greatly simplifies server configuration |
TurboVNC RUN script now exits normally |
Simply use your window manager's exit procedure; no special EXIT window. |
Advance Reservation e-mail reminders included |
Can request E-mail reminders of your advance reservations. |
Run.glxspheres script included |
Trivial to verify your setup and try any mode |
Subcluster allocation is supported for Scalable Visualization clusters |
Easily define any subset of your graphics cluster to allow simultaneous use of nonconflicting subclusters. |
