Starter Kit

NOTE: This project is no longer active because Starter Kits are no longer produced.  These pages remain for historical records.  Mailing list archives can be found here.  Forum archives can be found here.  Leaders who ran the project can be found here.  The Starter Kit Project was sponsored by the Documentation Community Group.

This project is for people working specifically on the documentation and media kit to introduce "newbies" to OpenSolaris.

Please note that this project is distinct from projects to do with making OpenSolaris itself more approachable: we're working on the Starter Kit, not on the code.

The project aims to help those new to OpenSolaris approach the project by helping with the following:
-installation of OpenSolaris distributions (phase 1 - where we are today)
-exploring OpenSolaris source code (phase 2)
-building OpenSolaris (phase 3)
-making changes to OpenSolaris source code (phase 3 too)
-submitting bugs and code contributions to OpenSolaris (phase 4)

...and given that OpenSolaris is constantly evolving, so will the Starter Kit.

Anything you can offer in this direction is welcome - we need help creating the content for the additional phases.  But it doesn't end there.  We're also #looking for people to help with design, writing, translations, and other smart ideas for helping those new to OpenSolaris.

For more about the first phase of the project see these threads:

Here is the Requirements Document (PDF
