The SMF FAQ is also managed as a repository of this project. This page includes the procedures to update the SMF FAQ. Once opensolaris.org has wiki-like functionality with versioning and rollback ability, we'll work to make this process simpler.

If you just want to make suggestions about the FAQ, and not edit it directly, just make your suggestions to smf-dicsuss@opensolaris.org.

If you'd like to edit the FAQ yourself:

  1. hg clone ssh://anon@hg.opensolaris.org/hg/smf-doc/smf-faq
  2. Make your proposed changes to the asciidoc source.
  3. make html. You'll need a copy of asciidoc to do so. You can get it here: http://www.methods.co.nz/asciidoc.
  4. Get a review of significant changes on smf-discuss. Ask the leaders there to give you edit rights to the SMF community webpages too.
  5. Add yourself as an observer of this project.
  6. Ask any of the leaders of this project to give you commit rights to the smf-faq repository.
  7. Push your changes back to the primary repository.
  8. make html again.
  9. Replace the content of http://opensolaris.org/os/community/smf/faq with your html file.

If you don't follow this procedure and edit the FAQ html directly, your edits will be lost. Please help us keep a versioned, archived copy of the SMF FAQ.
