OpenSolaris

Overview

The objective of project "Sierra" is to provide a robust Solaris device driver support for Intel WiFi chipsets.  This is a joint project between Intel and Sun under MCA. 

Status and Plan

• Sierra - iwk phase 1  : iwk(Intel 4965 802.11abgn) has been integrated into snv_86.
• Sierra - iwk phase 1.5: Intel and Sun are now jointly working on phase 1.5(IBSS support and Calibration features).
• Sierra - iwk phase 2  : iwk 802.11n support
• Sierra - iwh: Intel WiFi Link 5100/5300 Driver(Shirley Peak)

Sierra - iwk ph1.5

• IWK driver is for Intel 4965 WiFi chipset. Calibration and IBSS(adhoc) functions are added in this version of driver.

• To get run-able package(binaries), for snv104-， please download them at SUNWiwk, iwkph1.5, and net80211 binary; for snv105+, please download them at SUNWiwk, iwkph1.5, and net80211 binary. Please note IBSS need be configured by wificonfig v0.2.

• To get source code, Please clone iwk-ibss-calibration repository.

    $ hg clone ssh://your-login@hg.opensoalris.org/hg/sierra/iwk-ibss-calibration

• To contribute code, please send your ideas to <mailto:laptop-discussion@opensolaris.org> firstly.

• iwk Calibration support has been integrated into snv_99.

• iwk IBSS support has been integrated into snv_107.

Sierra - iwh

• IWH driver is for Intel Shirley Peak WiFi chipset. At present, this driver supports 802.11B/G/N mode.

• To get run-able package(binary):for snv104-, please download it at SUNWiwh; for snv105+, please download it at SUNWiwh;.

• iwh(7D) has been integrated into snv_99

• iwh(7D) 802.11n support has been integrated into snv_122.

iwk and iwh sparc version

• iwk and iwh sparc version makes intel 4965 and Shirley Peak WiFi chipset work on sparc platform.

• To get run-able package(binaries), please download them at SUNWiwk, iwk binary, SUNWiwh, iwh binaryand net80211 binary. 

• To get source code, Please clone iwk-iwh-sparc repository.
