Getting Involved

Installing OSD

The OSD binary packages are divided into 2 sets - the unstable branch, and the stable branch. Unstable represents the latest development community code, and can often not build, or contain many bugs and other instabilities. Stable represents the latest set of packages that have been integrated into Solaris Nevada. If you are interested in getting involved either by testing our releases, or taking part in development, we recommend you to install the unstable packages.

Getting the code

If you would like to contribute to the source code, why not try your hand at building OSD. The OSD sources are now available in a Subversion repository, offering both anonymous and full read/write access for regular contributors. If you would like to keep in touch with what changes are being committed back to the repository, you may like to subscribe to the jds-notify [at] opensolaris [dot] org mailing list.

Helping out

There are many task to help out with OSD - everything from building the sources, to testing and bug fixing them. If you find something wrong, or would like to suggest something new, please let us know! While building, testing and bug fixing are typical daily tasks in OSD development, we hope to be able to work towards filling some of the desktop gaps on Solaris. Check out the list of tasks people are working on, or better still propose your own!
