Project Scope

The scope of "Input Method" project includes:

  • To support IIIMF (which is currently the defualt IM framework on Solaris) on OpenSolaris, including building/packaging, bug fixing, and adding new features.
  • To support more input method frameworks on OpenSolaris, such as iBus, SCIM and UIM, they are popular IM frameworks on various Linux distributions.
  • To host intelligent input method implementations, such as SunPinyin (developed by Sun Asian G11N Center, shipped since Solaris 10, and opensource'd on OS.o), which is a SLM (Statistical Language Model) based IME.

News

iBus are now available for OpenSolaris (pkg.opensolaris.org/dev):

  • iBus 1.1 was integrated in snv_125 and has been upgraded to 1.2 at snv_129.
  • To use iBus, see "Build and use iBus" in the left menu.
  • iBus is planned to become default IM framework for future OpenSolaris.
  • SUNWibus-xkbc which emulates XKB keyboard layout, has been integrated in snv_130.
  • ibus-sunpinyin2.0 delivery rc4.
  • Virtual Keyboard input method has been added in SUNWibus-xkbc (snv_147).

imf-selector which can easily switch IMF (Input Method Framework) or enable/disable IMF startup through GUI, has been integrated in snv_147.
