Welcome
First of all, welcome to this project page!
We're here to create and develop a glossary (that is, a collection of terms and the definitions). Users may look up a Solaris term and learn what it means and does in this glossary. Translators will find inspiration on how to translate a term into their native languages because this glossary helps them understand the technology. As more and more academic institutions and users adopt Solaris as their choice of the operating platform, they are in need of good reference material. This glossary can be just that. Quite exciting, we must say. So please join the team. Make this glossary project happen! This page provides information on how you can do that.
The project
This is a project on OpenSolaris.org, even though the Glossary is hosted on a different machine, at least for the time being anyway. We decided on this to ease the contribution process by using the MediaWiki software that many people are familiar with through Wiktionary and Wikipedia. However, the OpenSolaris.org community process is honored in this project, including the requirement for contributors to sign Sun Contributor Agreement. Browsing and using the glossary does not require SCA.
Getting involved
There are a hundred and one ways to get involved in the project. Here's how:
- Subscribe to i18n-discuss at opensolaris dot org. This is where the project communication takes place. Likewise, subscribe to your language i18n/l10n community alias to discuss the project within a specific language community.
- Create an account on the Glossary site
- Use the glossary in your translation projects
- Organize/lead your language team.
- Translate terms, definitions, or both.
- Add your language if it's not listed, and start translating the glossary.
- Review translation, discuss among the team to refine the quality.
- Promote the project through various avenues: blogs, IRC, academic programs.
