Fingerprint Authentication

Introduction

This project is going to support fingerprint authentication in opensolaris, and may be extended to support more biometric authentication in the future. Initially three components(userland drivers for USB fingerprint readers, PAM module for biometric authentication and biometric administration tool) will be delivered to  get a complete solution. Please see the design document for detailed information.

Project Status

The following devices will be supported:

  • 0483.2016, SGS Thomson Microelectronics (embedded in laptops, such as Toshiba M5, Lenovo Thinkpad Txx/Zxx, etc)
  • 061a.0200, Veridicom International FPS200
  • 045e.00bd, Microsoft Fingerprint Reader 
  • 045e.00bb, Microsoft Keyboard with Fingerprint Reader
  • 05ba.0007, U.are.U fingerprint device
  • 05ba.000a, U.are.U fingerprint device

This project will include the following components:

  • Userland drivers for USB fingerprint readers. ([SUNWfpr])
  • Biometric PAM modules and administration tool. ([SUNWbio])
  • A GUI tool for biometric administration. (pending)
  • Patched GDM to support dual-mode login. (pending)

The whole project is dormant now. The project team is waiting for legal document from the vendors in order to resume the project.
