Developer's reference

Overview

Our ext2 driver consists of three parts:

• kernel module itself placed in /kernel/fs directory
• mount utility placed in /usr/lib/fs/ext2fs directory
• user space utilities

Kernel module

The kernel module consist of the following source files:

• ext2_alloc.c contains inode and data block allocation related functions.  
• ext2_dir.c contains functions handling directories.
• ext2_inode.c contains functions working with inodes. 
• ext2_subr.c contains functions used for inode or data block deallocation etc  
• ext2_vfsops.c implements driver's VFS interface. 
• ext2_vnops.c implements driver's vnode interface.

We have decided to use GNU e2fsprogs instead of re-writing them.
