The Duckwater (phase 0) standalone tools improvements, as well as a
number of improvements in connection management were delivered in snv_93.
Details on the Duckwater standalone changes can be found here:
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/duckwater/duckwater_phase0/
Duckwater is a project to provide a simplified solution to nameservices (NS) management.
A major goal of this project is to improve the functionality of the LDAP NS backend to make it more approachable. This includes auto configuration of the client where possible, meaningful error messages and validation of data before loading them on the server.
Another goal of this project is to allow for the existence of multiple NS configurations in a system. These configurations must be easy to create/modify and it must be easy to activate/deactivate a selected NS configuration. These configurations could be in the form of name service profiles. These profiles will define the overall NS configuration of the system capturing information such as the domain name, the name service switch (/etc/nsswitch.conf) info, etc.
This project will work closely with the NWAM project, the SMF community, the Sparks project, and possibly the Visual Panels project.
