Project Clearview: IP-Level Observability Devices
This Clearview project component introduces DLPI devices that allow snoop and other observability tools such as ethereal to view packets at the IP layer. This will allow administrators to observe IP packets that remain local to a system, conceptually flowing over the loopback interface. It will also allow observability into packets that flow between Zones (or Containers).
Key Accomplishments/Milestones
- IP Observability loopback device released as a Clearview early access technology (Phil Kirk, July 2006)
- PSARC inception held for IP Observability Devices, PSARC 2006/465 (Phil Kirk, August 2006)
- Integrated IP Observability Devices to Clearview gate (Phil Kirk, March 2007)
- Most of the IP Observability functionality available in Build 65 of the Clearview bits. (Phil Kirk, May 2007)
- IP Observability PSARC case approved (Phil Kirk, June 2007)
- Integrated into onnv_103 (Phil Kirk, November 2008)
Current Status
- The feature is now part of OpenSolaris, as it integrated into onnv build 103.
