Introduction
Common Array Manager (CAM) is disk storage device management software written in Java that currently ties together Sun's midrange family of disk storage systems in an administrator friendly way. The software includes a web application, currently runnable from the Sun Java Web Console, allowing the user to manage their systems from any browser and a command line utility which provides a facility for automating and scripting disk management operations and tasks.
Project Goals
The software has been designed with a plug-in architecture. Adding support for new devices is matter of implementing a plugin using the forthcoming CAM device SDK. Utilizing this design it is envisioned that CAM can be made to administer any disk systems whether hardware or software based.
Two top level goals for the project are:
- develop a repository of community contributed device plugins
- refine and enhance the core application framework, application user interfaces and device SDK
Roadmap
The tentative milestones for the project are:
- Release the CAM SDK along with sample plug-ins.
- Open source the core/base application source code
- Open source existing product plug-ins where feasible
