Open Solaris 05.08 support only X86. The SPARC support is scheduled for 08 Fall release. We need to figure out what files are needed to boot SPARC and figure out archives needed to boot and install. Support for compressed boot archive is available for SPARC called sparc.miniroot and it is used for installation purpose and also for safe boot.
[DM Please orient design primarily at HTTP case. NFS is an optimization we may or may not choose to offer]
*Only use dhcp for client/server communication on sparc and x86.
*Only use tftp for initial microroot loading.
*Use NFS and/or HTTP to get remote archives and files required for installation on both x86.
*Need to consider WAN boot design. HTTP is the protocol used for WAN boot now. Will likely continue with this as it is secure and WAN safe. grub doesn´t support NFS or HTTP right now. Need this to offer WAN on x86.
We have to create sparc.microroot that is similar to x86.microroot, that comes with Open Solaris 05.08. The microroot should contain all the files needed to boot the system.
*Possible use of newboot sparc features
*fiocompress and dcfs are available for compressed miniroot in memory on client for sparc today. Need to get this ported to x86 for use on both platforms.
