Roadmap to Slim Install

The OpenSolaris Developer Previews use the Slim Installer. The Slim Installer installs an OpenSolaris OS, from the Live CD, onto your system. The remainder of this Getting Started Guide describes the Slim installation process.

The steps to a successful installation are as follows:

  1. Check the requirements and limitations for running the Slim Installer on your laptop or x86 system:
1* Verify that your x86 system meets the System Requirements.
1* Review the Limitations for the OpenSolaris Developer Previews.
  2. Review specifications for a Multiboot Environment.
    1. Backup your system. This step is strongly recommended when repartitioning your system.
    2. Create a Partition for installing the OpenSolaris OS release on your system. If you already have a Solaris fdisk partition on your system, the Slim installation overwrites this partition.
  3. Install the OpenSolaris OS.
