Limitations for the OpenSolaris Developer Previews

The OpenSolaris Developer Previews have the following limitations:

  • These are prototype releases. Not all features are complete.
  • These releases are for x86 platforms only.
  • The Slim installer prototypes cannot upgrade an existing operating system. The installer can perform an initial installation into a selected primary Solaris partition (preserving existing partitions) or use an entire disk. Installation overwrites all software and data on the selected target. The prototype does not support JumpStart installations. And, the prototype does not support Live Upgrade.
  • The Slim Installer expects to find a preset fdisk partition on which to install the OpenSolaris OS. If a preset fdisk partition is not available, the installer overwrites the entire disk.
  • The entire content of a preexisting Solaris partition is overwritten during the Slim installation. Existing file systems cannot be preserved.
