By convention, a computer operating system is installed on a hard disk drive physically resident on the computer itself. The SCSI technology, which is an interface for connecting computers with peripherals such as disk drives, has been adapted to access a disk over a TCP/IP network or Internet. This technology is referred to as iSCSI. This project installs the OpenSolaris operating system onto a iSCSI target disk.
The first phase of the implementation will support iSCSI boot for the Automated Installer for x86 and SPARC platforms.
