Caiman, Solaris Install Revisited

Caiman, Solaris Install Revisited

Caiman is the code name for the program, and set of projects, to create a new Solaris installation experience.  The working ideas center on concepts such as:

  • Updated, simplified and attractive graphical and text user interfaces
  • Integrated hardware compatibility testing
  • Integrated live CD/DVD experience to provide a "try before you buy" capability
  • Deep integration with the latest Solaris features, such as ZFS and SMF
  • Simplified system configuration, integrated with the post-installation experience
  • Simple, fast, and reliable installation of additional software after installation

The problems which Caiman is attempting to solve are described in the Solaris Installation Strategy
