With the core Solaris support for configuring Name Services configuration with SMF, users can now create SC profiles and use the Automated Installer, Text Installer, and SCI Tool to configure name services. Please read details below for each installer, since not all name services are yet available through the installers.
Name services DNS, LDAP, and NIS are supported through SC profiles supplied to the Automated Installer. Also supported is combining DNS with LDAP and DNS with NIS. Examples of SC profiles for use with AI are found at SMF based SysConfig manifest. This page will be updated regularly with new examples and configuration options as they become available.
Starting with build 167, the SCI Tool and Text Installer can be used to configure DNS. NIS clients can be configured to locate a server on the same subnet automatically (broadcast mode). Manual specification of the NIS IP server address is supported starting with build 168.
LDAP should be fully functional in the SCI tool and Text Installer by build 169.
