As we have Dwarf Caiman demo bits available they will be posted here.
Update to Dwarf installer pkgs posted. Now we have both x86 and sparc pkgs. Details below as to what's new, what's changed.
- Probably best to remove the previous version of the install demo if it's installed :
$ pkgrm SUNWgui-install
$ pkgadd -d http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/caiman/files/SUNWgui-install.pkg
- Install :
$ pkgadd -d SUNWgui-install-{sparc|x86}.pkg
or
$ pkgadd -d http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/caiman/files/SUNWgui-install-{sparc|x86}.pkg
Run:
$ install-lan
install-lan is the initial pre-install screen and will take care of
chain loading the keyboard-layout program and finally the actual install
program itself (gui-install). gui-install hides until it receives
SIGUSR1, which the keyboard-layout program sends it.
These packages include the latest copy of the Orchestrator shared library (liborchestrator.so.1) and the Target Discovery static library (libtd.a), both will be installed to /usr/lib. Included in this package for dependency reasons.
This demo will not alter your system in any way, Selecting Install/Upgrade will not install software, Reboot button will not reboot your system.
For most users you will need to be root to run, however to workaround and run as a normal user this plug in a USB stick and the Target Discovery will find this ![]()
Lots of modifications for this release, here just a few...
Disk Screen (Install)
- Hooks up to Target Discovery now, and show actual disk and partitioning information.
Disk Screen (Upgrade)
- Hooks up to Target Discovery, but data is beside each disk still to be completed.
Timezone Screen
- Map has been removed as this was just a distraction. Timezone/date and time data is real.
Confirmation Screen
- Conforms to GUI Spec
- Disk section information retrieved from Disks Screen
- Software section hardcoded, will be provided from text file on DVD media
- Timezone taken from Timezone screen
- Language Support TBD
- Users section completed form users screen
Install/Update Progress
- Uses text files displayed on a colored background now instead of pixmaps. The colors are just picked off the top of my head, and have yet to be defined.
Dialogs (Help, Release Notes, License Agreement, Install Log):
- All thsse dialogs now have data DUMMY data plugged into them just so that people can see something being displayed.
Install/Upgrade Faulure Screens
- Newly added screens if Install fails, although they are never actually seen as the install at the moment always succeeds.
Tools Screen
- Newly Added tools install screen.
Terminal Launch
- When install completes or if you Quit during the install a Terminal window is launched.
General
- Quite a bit of new Solaris installer engine hook has been done, but the harmful calls have been commented out for demonstration purposes.
- This is code under very heavy development. There is lots of stuff that doesn't work yet or hasn't been implemented. If you think you see a bug(and you will), chances are we are aware of it :-). This is pre-Alpha.
-Comments/suggestions/ideas are welcome.
