Website Development Announcements

The documents linked below contain announcements from website development projects for opensolaris.org: plan development, source and binary releases, testing, open evaluation processes, conference calls, implementation details, and operations. More discussions about the website transition took place on the lists since 2007, but these are the major announcements for the overall project. Where links do not appear, either documents have been updated/replaced or the communication took place on a venue that does not offer links (either direct email to users or to a private list). In those cases, we merely document that the communication took place for transparency reasons, but please note that nothing confidential was discussed in those communications.

2010

  1. Defect Update 12/29/10
    Updated Bugzilla to v3.6.3
  2. OpenGrok Update 12/1/10
    Updated OpenGrok to the latest version.
  3. XWiki Update 10/04/10
    Deployed new XWiki skin and auth/hub integration code to update the app's look/feel, improve performance, fix style sheet bugs, fix watch lists, and relocate subsites menu out of the left nav.
  4. XWiki Update on Monday Oct 4 9/30/10
    Announcement to update XWiki with new skin, menu move, watch list fix, bug fixes.
  5. Updated auth.opensolaris.org and repo.opensolaris.org 09/21/10
    Deployed new back end SCM infrastructure and updates to new SCM Console. Updated auth with latest bug fixes, added automatic checking of commits to project repositories to verify committer agreements, removed inactive accounts.
  6. Upgraded defect.opensolaris.org 8/26/10
    Upgraded defect.os.org to Bugzilla 3.6.2
  7. Scheduled update of defect.opensolaris.org 8/24/10
    Downtime announcement that defect.os.org will be updated.
  8. New SCM Console Deployed 5/28/10
    New SCM Console web front end to improve repository management. Also, auth, repo, and chrome updated with 25 language localizations.
  9. Website Data Center Move Update 5/27/10
     Several major website systems moved. Additional work ongoing.
  10. Updated bugs.opensolaris.org 5/24/10
    Updated application to enable subscriptions to bug interest reports.
  11. Decommission of stage.opensolaris.org 4/30/10
    Planned decommission of stage.opensolaris.org. Six months of previous announcements.
  12. Website Data Center Move 4/28/10
    Website team activities to support a Data Center consolidation as a result of the Oracle acquisition of Sun.
  13. Added SSL to defect.opensolaris.org 4/21/10
    Authenticated sessions will be now be redirected to https on defect.opensolaris.org
  14. Discontinued Free CD 4/14/10
    Free CD program no longer available. Icons removed from the site.
  15. Macro for XWiki Attachments 4/9/10
    Enabled pages to display attachments be default.
  16. Reminder that stage.opensolaris.org will close in April 4/6/10
    Final reminder.
  17. Addressed Sun-Sponsored Links Box 3/29/10
    Renamed & Redesigned Sun-Sponsored Links box on the front page.
  18. Poll: 2010 Community Election 3/23/10
    Managed poll during the election and calculated/published the final results.
  19. Reminder that stage.opensolaris.org will close in April 3/8/10
    Three month reminder.
  20. Deployed Updated Voting Application 2/22/10
    Integrated poll.opensolaris.org with auth.opensolaris.org and provide a web front end for voting.

    Static site for ON Flag Days
  22. Post Grant Audit Deadlines 2/12/20
    In prep for the 2010 election, the Website team performed a governance grant audit that resulted in substantial changes. Request for community to check data (multiple requests were sent).
  23. Auth Info Screens & Localization Update 2/5/10
    Updated info screens for Auth and an additional eight languages (Auth now supports 25 languages).
  24. Patch update to hub.opensolaris.org 2/3/10
    Update to hub.opensolaris.org to fix descriptor leaks in XWiki.
  25. Reminder that stage.opensolaris.org will close in April 2/2/10
    Three month reminder that stage.opensolaris.org will close as scheduled at the end of April. Initial announcement of this was during the transition to hub.opensolaris.org in October 2009.
  26. Mail List Policy 2/2/10
    Website mailing list use policy to extend the Collective Life Cycle document.
  27. Copyright and Logo Changes to Website 1/28/10
    Added Oracle copyright notice and logo to opensolaris.org due to acquisition.
  28. Hardware Updates for Defect Tracking Systems 1/26/10
    Machine updates for defect.opensolaris.org and bugs.opensolaris.org.
  29. Update XWiki to v2.1.1 1/21/10
    Updated the XWiki application on hub.opensolaris.org from v1.8 to 2.1.1. Multiple bug fixes implemented, added more language support.
  30. Major Auth Update 1/13/10
    Support for blog feeds for future aggregation service, automatic changes from Core Contributor to Contributor status, and better integration with subsites.
  31. Enabled Flash File Support 1/7/10
    Migrated files and documented how uses can use the XWiki macro to support embedded media.
  32. Validate opensolaris.org accounts 1/6/10
    Internal communication to Sun employees on opensolaris.org to validate their accounts and employee information in Auth. This was part of a series of mails to all users of opensolaris.org to validate their accounts. No links. 

2009

  1. Updated Website Common Content 12/19/09
    Substantially updated two dozen top level common documents on the site, and wrote a new website user guide and localization contribution model.
  2. Updates to bugs.opensolaris.org 11/11/09
    New version of bugs.opensolaris.org deployed.
  3. Moratorium on new Collectives Lifted 10/28/09
    Began setting up new Collectives on the new site. See Collective Life Cycle Instructions here.
  4. New OpenSolaris Website is Live 10/26/09
    opensolaris.org moves to XWiki on hub.opensolaris.org.
  5. Schedule for Final Website Transition on Mon Oct 2 10/23/09
    Details for the final content migration to XWiki on Monday October 26th. This announcement ends the Phase 2 interim period, which consisted of 31 content migrations over 3 months to enable the community to prepare content for the final move to XWiki.
  6. Website Transition Update: 1 Week Left 10/20/09
    29th content migration in 11 weeks. One week warning.
  7. Auth account validation deadline 10/14/09
    Personal email communication to opensolaris.org users who have not validated their accounts under the new Auth system.
  8. Website Transition Update: 2 Weeks Left 10/13/09

  9. opensolaris.org website changes 10/08/09
    Personal email communication to all users on opensolaris.org about the final date of 10/26/09 to move to XWiki.

  12. Scheduled Downtime for Auth System Update 10/1/09
    Change the roles in CGs to accommodate the OGB and add access to CG Electorates for the OGB Secretary.
  13. Schedule Update: Target Date for Final Transition to XWiki is 10/26 9/28/09
    New target date for the final migration of content to XWiki on hub.opensolaris.org.
  14. Website Transition Conference Call 9/17/09
    The 5th community conference call to discuss the website transition project.
  15. Hardware Updates for Defect Tracking System 9/4/09
    Update to defect.opensolaris.org
  16. Phase 2 Transition Schedule Update 8/28/09
    The switch to XWiki, which has been scheduled for Sept 14th, will be delayed approximately 2-3 weeks to complete new work on the roles in CGs and to do additional testing. New final date for the Phase 2 transition to XWiki is TBD.
  17. Website Transition Conference Call 8/27/09

    Update to Bugzilla 3.4.1.
  20. Phase 2 Starts: Tonic -> XWiki Content Prep Instructions 8/10/09
    Preparing content for Phase 2 content migration. This mail starts a series of content migrations leading into the final move to XWiki. All migrations will be posted to website-discuss and/or opensolaris-announce in Aug/Sept but the mails will not be listed here as well. Also, many of these content migration emails have been sent to all the OSUGs (about 150 lists) and all the key Projects and Community Groups (well over 100 lists).
