Subject: Flag day: SUNWlexpt updated on the gate
This only affects you if you BFU with official archives built on the
Nevada gate after 9/18 onto systems installed with snv_72 or earlier.
In order to build xVM the gate updated SFW and JDS. Archives built on
the gate after 9/18 need a newer version of SUNWlexpt for hald(1M).
Currently this only affects x86 systems, but the sparc build server will
be updated to match the x86 server this weekend, so this will apply to
sparc as well.
Symptoms if you fail to update SUNWlexpt:
Sep 22 14:34:52 svc.startd[100004]: svc:/system/hal:default: Method
"/lib/svc/method/svc-hal start" failed with exit status 95.
Sep 22 14:34:52 svc.startd[100004]: system/hal:default failed
fatally: transitioned to maintenance (see 'svcs -xv' for details)
Also JDS will not work, see "6509673 gnome-vfs-daemon dumps core when
HAL is disabled"
There are two options to get past this flag day, (1) just update
SUNWlexpt or (2) update all of SFW.
To only update SUNWlexpt run this command as root:
# /ws/onnv-gate/public/bin/update_pkgs "update SUNWlexpt"
/net/devi.sfbay/export SUNWlexpt
To update all of SFW:
# /ws/sfwnv-gate/public/bin/update_sfw
If you update before your next BFU, hald(1M) should be fine. You will
have the old and new versions of libexpat.so. If you have already BFU-ed
an x86 system from gate archives you need to update SUNWlexpt (with one
of the methods above) and restart /system/hal. A reboot is not required.
