Subject: Heads up for volfs(7D) no media support

With the putback for:

PSARC/2005/395 volfs(7D) no media support
6301944 volfs(7D) no media support

vold now creates device nodes for devices without media in the volfs
directory structure. These device nodes allow applications such as
rmformat(1) and cdrw(1) to be able to list all devices with or without
media while vold is running. Other applications can now take advantage
of these device nodes for their own use.

A possible side effect might be that applications may access the device
nodes incorrectly and assume there is media. Applications that handle
errnos correctly should not have any impact.

For those who are impacted by this change, you can revert to the
original vold behavior by editing vold.conf and changing the support
field from "nomedia" to "media" and refresh the volfs service.

If any problems arise, please send mail to tamarack-core at sun dot com
