First CAB Election

[jim still writing and editing and posting ...]

This page contains a summary of the First OpenSolaris Community Advisory Board (CAB) election and links to 12 CAB-related conversations on the discuss list. I pulled the content from those conversations and posted them here because it's important that the election be fully documented for the public to see -- even though the election took place within the pilot program which was under an NDA. The CAB agreed, however, that this information was important to save for future reference as future elections are considered.

On January 25th, when Sun opened the opensolaris site, released DTrace, and announced the CDDL license, the company also announced the intention to form the OpenSolaris CAB. The CAB would consist of five members: 2 elected from the pilot program, 2 employees chosen by Sun, and 1 representative of the open source community chosen by Sun. The CAB's mandate was intentionally comprehensive but lightly defined. Basically, Sun wanted the CAB to define itself and initiate the process of designing a governance proposal that Sun, the CAB, and the community could all consider, debate, and eventually ratify.

Discussion on the intention, the process, the nominations, the voting system, the election, Sun's participants, and the open source participant are all found in the links below. The numbers are the dates of the discussion and the titles are the approximate subjects of the threads.
