SNMP Access to Fault Management Information

To provide remote SNMP Network Management Stations with information about faults present on a managed system, we are developing the fault management MIB.  This MIB describes the data available to a browser as well as traps that can be sent by a fault manager when a fault is diagnosed or some other noteworthy event occurs.  The NMS receiving the trap will have enough information to obtain additional details from the agent on the managed system.  This architecture provides an administrator with a realtime summary of faults for a data center or the entire enterprise.

SNMP capability for Solaris FMA will be delivered into Nevada in January 2006, and will also be made available in a Solaris 10 update release.

This page also serves as a registry for the fault manager's OID arc, which has been allocated as .1.3.6.1.4.1.42.2.195 (.iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.sun.products.fm).  As additional data is made accessible through this MIB and/or additional MIBs are developed, this page will be updated with the latest information.
