Solaris, and OpenSolaris, have traditionally been recognized as a server based operating system. While this still remains true to today, the importance of the desktop has grown over the last couple of years. OpenSolaris Desktop has been a powerful and complete desktop system for users, developers and deployers, and provides all the tools users expect from a modern computing environment both installed by default and available on our online network package repositories. The new features for OpenSolaris 2009.06 includes Firefox 3.1 Beta3, Tim-Slider Snapshot Management, Multimedia with Codeina and Elisa, Image Packaging system, Package Manager, and etc.
There are still many desktop related projects you can help to promote OpenSolaris Desktop - everything from GNOME, KDE, Mozilla, and many, many others.
