Launch de-brief
- Jim briefed the CAB on various general launch items.
- CAB updated on their launch activities and interviews.
- Al gave launch stats on genunix mirror -- hardware, site launch, and data transfers exceeded 90 gigs in the first few days post launch.
Marketing
- The CAB has requested a meeting with Sun marketing to de-brief on the launch. The CAB recognizes the value of Sun marketing and the role marketing plays on the OpenSolaris project but wants to clarify roles and responsibilities going forward.
Key issues to address from the launch
- The development of the "3 big questions" document: the definition of what OpenSolaris is, how it is distinct from Solaris, etc. What is marketing's role in the generation of these documents, what is engineering's role, where is the boundary between the two organizations and how the CAB works with both. What are the lessons from that pre-launch experience that can be learned for next time?
- What are marketing's plans going forward? The CAB's desire to get a de-brief from Sun marketing could potentially grow into a monthly meeting to collaborate on various community marketing issues. The CAB is working on a budget request for Sun for CAB/community marketing purposes, so this seems like a time to engage more formally at a reasonable interval.
Governance Proposal
- As per the OpenSolaris roadmap, the governance proposal will be published, debated, and iterated within 3 months of launch.
Action Items:
- Set up marketing/CAB meeting.
